Room 12, 5th class were treated to a guided tour of the local environs, commonly know as "D’Rocks”! which was amazing.
The fabulous tour guide, Colm, who doubles as the boss at the South End Family Resource Centre, guided the students around Hilly Holly, the Devils Chair and the wooded area of Maudlintown.

Colm imparted his great knowledge about the flora and fauna of the area while showing us a lot of different types of plants and trees, such as Beech, Hazel, Spanish Chestnut and Horse Chestnut. He also showed us different rocks such as Quartz. He pointed out some trees that were sown by Senior Infants many years ago.

When we went up Holly Hill and looked down over the town we could see our school. Colm also pointed out the three churches. This is one of the only locations around the town where you can see the three churches together. We all climbed up on a big rock to get a better view over Maudlintown. We collected lots of different parts of nature such as leaves, twigs, branches, ferns and saplings.

When we got back to school we did art and we used this to inspire us. We created lots of lovely drawings and sketches. We had a lovely walk, we wish it could have lasted longer!
