'Every coin counts' Thank you for your support in Hanrahan's

Today while paying a bill in Hanrahan’s, Mrs. Hanrahan handed over the slightly worn plastic tub seen above. Adorned with a pink ‘In Aid of the Faythe School Parents’ Association’ label on the front, it was full to the brim of coins, most likely the small change from locals shopping in Hanrahan's who didn’t give second thought to dropping the coppers / shrapnel / washers / scrap in to the tub.

It is now bagged and ready for the Parents’ Association. The significant amount of €176.78 came from the tub of scrap!!!

Just to put that in perspective….

  • that scrap could pay for another 44 calculators like those the Parents’ Association paid for last year
  • that scrap could nearly match the ‘bus tour subsidies’ for two classes that the Parents’ Association paid to all twelve classes last year
  • that scrap could pay for the licence for online supports for 10 children with additional needs as recommended by the National Council for Special Education and not funded by the Department of Education since the ‘economic downturn.’
  • that scrap could pay for a significant amount of ‘Aistear’ resources for our Infant classes – ‘Aistear’ is the key resource advocated for pre-school and primary school infant education advocated yet never funded by the DES.

So thank you sincerely to everyone who ever dropped as much as a single coin into the tub…..small gestures combine to make significant differences and as usual the money raised by the Parents’ Association is spent in school by them on the children in the school.

Thank you too to the staff in Hanrahan’s for their continued support of all Faythe school activities.
