On Wednesday 22nd May 2019 Mr. Ó Donnagáin's 4th Class, my 4th Class and our trusty SNAs Pauline S. and Deirdre Murphy filled a Fleetline Coach and headed on our annual School Tour to 'Let's Go' in Waterford.

On a scorching day we had an absolutely brilliant day and the 'Let's Go' crew couldn't have been better with the children.

Enjoy the video blog and watch out for the commentaries later.

Tug of War at the Faythe School

On Thursday 22nd of March, Cathy from ‘Tug of War Ireland’ came to our school. She taught Mr French’s 4th class and Ms. Gahan’s 5th and 6th class the safe and proper way to play tug of war.

Cathy showed us how to hold the rope. She showed us how to lean back and the most comfortable way to stand when pulling. She also showed us how to get into the proper position to pull with your legs and not your arms.

Our class was then divided into 6 teams. There were 6 on each team and 2 teams played against each other each time. 1 team stood at either side of the rope and held it. Cathy stood in the middle of the rope at the white tape. The centre of the rope was over the centre line in the MUGA. When Cathy shouted “PULL”, each team pulled against each other. The team that pulled the other team across the middle line was the winner. Each team had 4 games each. We all (including teachers) had great fun.

We really appreciated the opportunity of doing it. We would like to thank Cathy for coming into our school and also Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Kehoe for getting Cathy to come to the school.

We travelled on the bus to a 'futsal' competition in St.Joseph's Community Centre, Bishopswater.

We arrived at St. Josephs at around 9:45am and we didn’t need to get changed because we did it in school earlier.

There were eleven boys’ teams and nine girls teams including the two boy’s teams and two girl’s teams from St. John of God P.S..

If your team wasn’t playing you would go upstairs and look down at the matches that were on.

In May 2017 our 3rd class were invited to the Zurich Offices in Drinagh, Wexford to celebrate completing our 16 week ‘Time to Read’ programme. 'TtoR' happened every Wednesday morning with the help of the 12 Zurich workers who came weekly for over four months to help us read. The reading groups began on the 8th of February and continued right up to 17th of May. Once the 16 weeks were over we were very kindly invited out to see where the Zurich helpers worked.

Our class did a lot of fun activities there. Firstly we visited the Offices themselves where everyone worked. We were really excited to see everything that happened in the offices and were amazed with the size of the building.

Shortly afterwards we had some storytelling where Tina from the Wexford Library read two books to us which were written by Roald Dahl. We then had some art activities and props for dress up where we got pictures together all dressed up in the props. One of the most exciting parts was getting all the sweets that Zurich kindly gave us.

South East Radio also came to Zurich that day. 4 children from our class and Ms. Kelly all spoke on the radio. Leiagh and Sebastian spoke first who were asked if they liked reading and also if they liked the volunteers from Zurich. Cíara and Lukas then spoke afterwards.

Earlier this week the children from Ms. Dempsey's 3rd & 4th classes and my own 2nd & 3rd classes enjoyed a very informative talk from two of the firemen based in Wexford's Fire Station beside Clonard Church.

An account will be posted later but until then enjoy the video.

I must apologise for the choice of music but it is very hard to get something that refers to fire safety....so we went with 'We Didn't Start The Fire!' by Billy Joel!!

Tree Planting 2016

Posted by on in The Faythe School

Yesterday, on what must have been one of the coldest days of the year, Ms. Conroy's Senior Infants and my own 2nd & 3rd classes made our way up to the Rocks. Accompanied by Ms. Duggan and a few intrepid parents we met Colm and the gang from the SEFRC.

Over the next hour we planted around 40 native hard woods in and around the Mary's pitch. Hopefully these trees will be there in many years to come for the enjoyment of all in the area.
